A wet wedding at Woodlands Park hotel

Anna & Guy are a great couple to photograph.  We had a fantastic engagement shoot at Hampton Court Palace in the summer.  The weather was lovely and we were hoping for the same again when they tied the knot at The Woodlands Park Hotel.  Unfortunately it pretty much rained for the whole time – except for 10 minutes!  Just enough time to do a few group photographs outside on the patio.  It was too wet and soggy to go on the grass, so we made the most of inside and despite photographing at the Woodlands Hotel many times, still managed to find some creative shots that I haven’t done before.  I love trying to find different places and angles.  That’s what makes being a photographer so much fun!

Anna & Guy have a gorgeous baby girl, who just didn’t want to go for her usual sleep with the excitement of the day, so lots of crying due to tiredness!  Despite this, Anna remained very calm when she was getting ready.  Emma the make-up artist was great and we got some great photographs in the room before the ceremony.  Anna looked amazing in her dress.  It was very unusual design, and she had the perfect figure to carry it off.

The couple wanted to wait for Anna’s grandmother to arrive, so the ceremony started half an hour late, but it was lovely that she could see them getting married and we managed to make up some of the time later.

The guests all seemed to be really enjoying themselves and I got lots of smiling candid photographs.  The room looked amazing and Anna and Guy did a brilliant job with the colour co-ordinatation.

We arranged that I would go home during the meal, (as I live so close to the Woodlands) and come back for the first dance.  However, the best men were still doing their speeches when I arrived.  It seemed a very well rehearsed presentation and must have taken them hours to organise!  They were very funny and had the room in fits of laughter.  I had trouble holding my camera still at times!

I took lots more candid photographs of evening guests and cutting of the cake whilst waiting for the band to set up.  The first dance wasn’t the usual slow song, and everyone enjoyed their moves!  The band was brilliant and had the dance floor jam packed with people.  I had to leave to photograph a local music event, so a very long day for me.  Although I felt like staying to have a dance myself….!
